WHO CAN AVAIL OF THE SCHEME?It is a National Scheme and therefore all homeowners of dwellings built before 2006 may apply. Landlords and owners of multiple properties can also apply, once they submit a separate application per property. HOW DO I APPLY?The Home Energy Saving Scheme is open to all homeowners. Visit www.seai.ie to apply on line or download the forms. You can also email Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or phone 1850 927000. WHO CAN DO THE WORK?In accordance with the Scheme's Terms and Conditions, all works must be completed by a Contractor form the SEAI's Registered List, which will be available once the scheme opens for homeowner applications. Through the registration process SEAI ensures that all contractors are competent in terms of installation standards and specifications and that the products they use are fit for purpose. WHEN CAN I GET THE WORK DONE?Grant Approval must be in place prior to any purchase of material or the commencement of works is undertaken. Work already undertaken is not eligible for a grant. IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE MORE THAN ONE APPLICATION?Yes, a homeowner can undertake some of the measures in the first application and then decide at a later date to do more work and make a second application. There is a minimum grant requirement of €400 for the first application. This does not apply to subsequent applications. CAN I APPLY IF I WAS PART OF THE HES PILOT SCHEME?Homeowners, who received a grant payment through the earlier HES Pilot Scheme may apply for measures not included in any such payment. WHAT IS A BUILDING ENERGY RATING (BER)?A Building Energy Rating is an energy label that gives an indication of the energy required to run an individual building. A BER assessor will evaluate the insulation levels, heating system and building elements to determine the overall performance. IS IT NECESSARY TO GET A BER ASSESSMENT UNDER THE SCHEME?Yes a BER Assessment is mandatory. WHAT IS THE MINIMUM GRANT I CAN APPLY FOR?When a homeowner is making their first application the grant amount must be for €400 or greater. The BER grant, if availed of, is not eligible to be counted in this calculation. For example, a homeowner who applies for the roof insulation grant of €200, plus the cavity wall insulation grant of €250 has a total grant value of €450. This is in excess of the minimum requirement of €400 and therefore they are eligible to apply for the grant. A homeowner who applies for the roof insulation grant of €250 only does not meet the minimum grant requirement and therefore would not be in a position to draw a grant for the upgrade nor be entitled to a BER Assessment grant either. HOW DO I KNOW IF I SHOULD APPLY?If your home was built in the last 3-5 years it may not be necessary for you to apply. However, if your home was built prior to this time and has had no major refurbishment to date the scheme could be for you. Completing the Home Energy Saving Scheme Self Assessment Checklist is a good place to start. If you answer YES to all or the majority of the the questions it would be beneficial for you to consider upgrading your insulation. |
