Why 2021 Should Be The Year You Choose EPS

Choose EPS This Year

At KORE, we’re focused at relieving our customer’s pain points, understanding the needs required of different markets and applications, and how we can solve problems together while offering high quality, high performance EPS solutions. With the New Year upon us, now is the perfect time to review purchasing decisions and explore alternatives available in the marketplace. Not only can reviewing your options save money, it can save time and resources, making your projects more efficient and sustainable.

In our first post of 2021, we’ll explore the top reasons why 2021 should be the year that you choose EPS for your insulation or civil engineering needs.

1. EPS can accelerate your lean construction plans

KORE products are a lean construction manager’s dream come true. Expanded Polystyrene, or EPS, can easily accelerate lean construction practices on site. We hear time and time again from our customers how KORE products simplify a wide range of tasks on site. Here’s just a few of our most popular applications:

KORE Fill Cavity Wall Insulation

KORE Fill Bonded Bead Cavity Wall Insulation generates no waste on site, installs in as little as one day and is only installed by approved contractors who handle everything from the purchasing of material to the equipment required for installation. Whether new build or retrofit, KORE Fill will reduce labour costs, ensure a high quality installation and easily meet Part L 2019 of the building regulations.

KORE Floor Insulation

Like all of our EPS products, KORE Floor Insulation requires no specialised equipment to install. Its chemically inert and can easily withstand the Irish climate, installable in damp or wet ground conditions. KORE Floor is cut to the required size during manufacturing, meaning less labour and resources on site. In addition, it easily accommodates underfloor heating while achieving Part L 2019 building regulations at a cost typically at least 20% less than competing materials. It’s also available at building merchants across the country.

KORE Floor is sustainable and offers a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration so you can achieve BREEAM, LEED or HPI certification.

KORE Insulated Foundation System

The KORE Insulated Foundation System

is fully designed and engineered off site and specific to your project requirements. The product arrives on site ready to install with installation guidelines. Unlike traditional methods, the foundation system can be installed using less labour and in a shorter amount of time, in most cases just a couple of days. For developers, the system is scalable. The ground can be prepared for multiple units ahead of time. There is no sacrifice in performance as the foundation offers U-values as low as 0.10W/m2K while eliminating thermal bridging at the wall to floor junction. In addition, there is normally no added cost (it can even save you money) when compared to a traditional foundation due to the labour, time and material savings.

2. EPS will save money

We normally promote EPS on the merits of the product itself; it’s high quality, sustainable, versatile and easily meets the requirements for low energy building. However, it can’t be ignored that EPS is a cost-optimal material that is proven time and time again to reduce costs. This includes:

  • Cost savings on the material itself
  • Cost savings on the time, labour, resources and health & safety required for many applications
  • Cost savings on transport and waste removal

While the final number will depend on a variety of factors, in nearly all applications our customers save on costs without having to settle for subpar performance or quality.

3. There’s no sacrifice on sustainability

It’s a myth and completely false that EPS is not a sustainable material. Even during the manufacturing of the product no CFCs, HCFCs or toxic chemicals are released into the environment. We rely on steam, heat and pressure and offset our electrical consumption with heat recovery and solar PV.

KORE EPS holds a third-party verified environmental product declaration. Waste can be recycled along with the product at the end of its useful life. It is standard practice that wastage created during manufacturing is reused whenever possible.

Any carbon required during the initial manufacturing of the raw material is offset by the savings for the end user. 1kg of installed EPS typically saves over 400 litres of oil during a building’s lifetime, reducing carbon emissions and associated energy spend.

4. Unparalleled technical backup and support

At KORE we pride ourselves on the customer service and support that we provide no matter the size of the order. We offer a dedicated technical team that can assist with a wide variety of queries, including:

  • U-value calculations specific to the project
  • Condensation risk analysis
  • Thermal bridging analysis for typical junctions
  • Temperature factor analysis

In addition, our sales team is happy to provide the following services:

KORE offers a training academy for a variety of products including the Insulated Foundation System, and a full technical resource centre with Declaration of Performance Certificates, Agreement Certificates, brochures, typical construction details and more.

5. We’re available nationwide

It’s KORE’s commitment to the customer to deliver the exact product to the exact specification to the exact site at the exact time, every time. We do this by truly understanding the needs of our customers, and that means making our products accessible right across the country.
