2024 year in review

2024 was a year of development and innovation for KORE Insulation, and we couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together. From significant events and partnerships to the expansion of our production facilities and machinery.

Let’s take a moment to look back at some of the highlights and successes that have defined our journey this year—and how they’ve set the stage for the future of KORE.

KORE’s Production Growth: Expanding Capabilities and Efficiency in 2024

2024 has been a ground-breaking year for production at KORE Insulation. We’ve experienced remarkable growth, with our production facility expanding by an impressive 1650m2, thanks to the addition of a modern warehouse extension. This new space has allowed us to house state-of-the-art machinery, including automated cutting lines, automated packaging systems, and expanded storage capacity for our EPS blocks. To further enhance our efficiency, we introduced a night shift, enabling 24-hour production capabilities, as well as an increase in our fleet of cavity wall specific trailers, and new rigids also.

Additionally, the integration of new electric forklifts and partnerships with industry-leading brands like BEWI Group, BASF’s Neopor®, and BYD has helped optimise our operations. At KORE, we remain committed to investing in cutting-edge tools, materials, and technologies to ensure we continue delivering the highest quality, sustainable products to our customers.

Fuelling innovation at KORE

At KORE, innovation is key to our success and is embedded in every aspect of our operations. It drives our ability to create cutting-edge solutions, improve processes, and respond to the ever-changing demands of the industry.

Alongside our enhanced production capabilities, we invested in renewable technologies, and education for our employees to better service our industry in the most sustainable way.

Innovation doesn’t work without fresh ideas, and a growing, dedicated team. This year our team grew by 20%  as we welcomed new talent in various departments including technical, production, marketing and accounts.

This year, KORE has made significant strides in our commitment to quality, sustainability, and safety. We are proud to announce the successful attainment of several key ISO certifications, including ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).

In addition to these achievements, we passed the Biomass Balance Audit with flying colours. This rigorous assessment evaluates our products and processes under the principles of the circular economy, focusing on the use of renewable resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and minimising reliance on fossil fuels. Our successful certification highlights our ongoing efforts to integrate sustainable practices into every aspect of our business.

To further strengthen our commitment to sustainability, we are also proud to be Net Zero Pathway certified. This certification aligns with our goal to achieve NetZero emissions by 2030, reinforcing our dedication to reducing our environmental footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future. These milestones reflect our continued focus on excellence, innovation, and environmental stewardship as we work towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Expanding Opportunities with BBA Certification

KORE are proud to have received British Board of Agrément (BBA) Certification for KORE’s Insulated Foundation System. This achievement underscores the exceptional quality, durability, and performance of our innovative foundation system, while significantly expanding its availability across Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom. The BBA Certificate (No. 24/7229) complements our existing NSAI certification for the Republic of Ireland, enabling KORE to offer our insulated foundation system with full regulatory approval in both regions. By meeting the rigorous standards of both the NSAI and the BBA, KORE has reinforced its position as a premier provider of sustainable, high-performance insulation solutions, further solidifying our reputation for excellence and reliability within the industry.

Circular Reno 2024

Advancing Sustainability with Circular Reno: A New Era in Retrofitting

2024 saw KORE Insulation and KORE Retrofit become integral Irish partners in the Circular Reno project, an Interreg Europe NW initiative with Túath Housing Association and project partners from four other EU member states.

This initiative to develop bio-based circular solutions for domestic retrofit projects and is split into three work packages, number 1,2,3. Each package capsulating an action plan to help achieve the goals outlined, including a deep energy retrofit of 10 social houses, using lightweight modularised construction techniques, and supporting and advancing the transition to agri-crop bio-based materials in construction within the Irish context. Two of ten homes have recently been completed to A-Rated homes, and KORE were proud to showcase the first house in Ireland using off-site manufactured KORE low carbon EPS. These homes also were the first homes to have hemp used as attic insulation.

Together, these work packages represent a significant step toward a more sustainable, innovative, and resilient construction industry in Europe.

As partners in this EU project, alongside Túath Housing Association we had the opportunity to host out European counterparts in September. KORE Insulation and KORE Retrofit took the group on a field trip on day 2 from Dublin to Athlone and Offaly, showcasing three sites, including pilot homes, and the drive 0 house. All attendees left with a clearer vision of our plans and goals, and how we will achieve them.

Our researchers proudly contributed to the field of biobased construction by publishing two influential white papers in the International Journal of Architectural Engineering Technology. These papers focus on the growing importance of biobased construction solutions derived from agricultural crops, highlighting their potential to revolutionize the building industry and contribute to sustainability.

Paper 1: “Biobased Construction from Agricultural Crops: A State of Play of Commercial Solutions in Europe” and Paper 2: “Biobased Construction from Agricultural Crops: Supply Chain Dynamics of European Case Studies”. As part of our ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of sustainability, these publications contribute to the global conversation on how biobased materials can play a central role in achieving a low-carbon, circular economy in construction.
